1 Peter 1:24-25 NLT
As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the Word of the Lord remains forever.”
We discover that the Word was both with God and was God from the first chapter of John's Gospel. As Christians, we recognize Jesus the Christ as this Word.
This Word is separate from creation because he is the one who created it, and he speaks in a different voice than we do. Everything else on earth and in heaven will perish, but God's Word will endure forever. As a result, this provides us with a great deal of relief.
We can only rely on the Word since it is the only true thing. The Word—which is God's promise of unmerited favor to us in Jesus Christ—rather than people, possessions, institutions, or even our own selves.
It is critical that we keep in mind that the Word is not about ourselves. I have the responsibility of proclaiming the Word as a follower of Jesus Christ. It isn't mine. You don't want my own word, after all. My word is not going to work. You don't want bishops' or churches' advice either. You'll be let down by these as well. Even your own word isn't enough for you. Even to the person who owns it, the human heart is deceiving and misleading.
You want God's Word to take control of your life, not the other way around. It is the only Word that is certain and certain. The only Word of Life is Jesus Christ, the Word.
When our friends, family, and churches fail us, we can be assured that God is still with us and will deliver us from all of our hardships and temptations.
That is why it is critical that we adhere to God's Word rather than our own. We shall be led astray by our own words from the life that God desires for us. They will lure us away from the only way to know God, which is via Jesus the Christ.
We have forgiveness of sins, reconciliation, and all of our hope in the face of adversity in Christ.
Everything else, according to 1 Peter, melts or fades away. The grass and flowers will fade and fall away, but the Lord's Word will stand the test of time. God has committed himself to this Word and is faithful to his promises.
His Word abounds with color, bringing life to our black-and-white world. May God keep us true to his Word and keep all other words at bay.
May God keep us strong as we confront all of life's challenges. That is exactly what He does.
Only God is worthy of all honor and glory!
